New Adventures of a Single Woman
16 years ago I became a widow. My husband of 36 years passed away very suddenly. It took a long time to get back on my feet after the loss. I soon learned , however, that life goes on and I would have to rebuild my life as a single woman. So after two months I went back to work as a nurse and began my life alone. It was challenging and discouraging at first as my world revolved around my husband and with out him it was as if the world had stopped. Eventually, I joined a grief support group where I met a few new friends. That morphed into monthly dinners with a small group of like people also suffering through loss. As time went on I met a few women who became my very good friends and we started to begin enjoying life again. Our monthly grief group , now known as Marion's Angels for the woman who sets up our monthly meetings and keeps us posted on what is going on with the group, continues with monthly dinners. Through the support and friendship of my new friends I started to realize that my life, although changed as now I am a single woman, goes on and I would have to reinvent myself. But to this day 16 years later I am still trying to "find out who I am and what I want!
This blog was started in 2015. Since then my friend, Marion Almeida, who started our Grief Support group, Marion's Angels has passed away and our group has essentially dissolved. Another friend , Teddy Shaw, also passed away. The support group had morphed into a friendship group we could look forward to each month while enjoying a nice dinner. Things have changed over the last few years but some of our group still keep in touch. Friends are the utmost importance as we wend our way through life. They hold us up when we are weak.
